All the Holiday Feels

Maddy and I were talking the other day and we started sharing with each other that even though the holidays are "merry and bright", they also bring on another rush of emotions - some that are not so bright.

I was riding the peloton bike last week, when during one of the Christmas songs I completely began to cry, thinking of my sister, my grandparents ... so many emotions hit me at once. The holidays always seem to bring out this nostalgic set of emotions. You start thinking of those you miss, anyone who is sick or getting older, those you used to share special traditions with. Then for New Year's you start thinking of the year that just passed, how your little ones are getting older, how your parents are getting older ... all the blessings and struggles you've faced. How did you deal with the not so bright moments? Are you still dealing with them now? How will the new year look like?

I always thought I was alone in feeling like this, but it turns out I'm not. I do love seeing the kids get so excited with all the holiday cheer, singing Christmas carols, decorating the gingerbread house, picking our Christmas tree, these are all beautiful memories made during this time. But I can't help but think back on old memories and if you're reading this and feel the same way, I want you to know THAT IS OKAY. It is okay to feel all the feels and be in your emotions, you can go from watching the happiest Hallmark Christmas movie to laying in bed praying and thinking to yourself that you wished you could have one more merry and bright with those you miss and love.
