Our Day at LEGOLAND Discovery Center
In honor of National LEGO Day on January 28th, we decided to visit our local LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Atlanta, GA. Every time we pass by their entrance at the mall, Sofia has begged and pleaded to go in. My husband and I were a bit hesitant to take her because we believed it was for older children, but we were so wrong!
LEGOLAND Discovery Center just launched a special Little Playtimes program, targeted to children ages 5 and under and best of all it includes FREE Starbucks for parents. Yes, I said FREE Starbucks!! So, if I caught your attention, let me tell you a bit more about our experience at this amazing complex.
Little Playtimes takes place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Starting at 11 a.m., parents and their toddlers can join Playmakers in DUPLO Village for storytime followed by a discussion and themed build. At 2 p.m., toddlers can identify colors and use motor skills to create shapes during a 45-minute Rainbow Build activity.
We made it for the 11 a.m. session and Sofia absolutely loved it. Best of all their storytime book pairs with a special DUPLO LEGO set that you can purchase at their gift shop and take home for additional playtime fun (see photo above). During Little Playtimes, Sofia enjoyed the DUPLO Village slide and blocks pit, which is right next to the LEGO Cafe with plenty of seating for parents and their little ones.
You may be wondering, what happens after storytime and themed build? Following Little Playtimes, mini builders can explore play areas, rides and more, during normal operation hours after each session.
We enjoyed a variety of their play areas that I have broken down for you below. I have to say I was surprised how toddler-friendly they were and if you want to take the experience one step further they have a few extras available. We bought an activity pack for Sofia upon entering which, allowed us to go on a scavenger hunt, collect all the stamps we could find around the complex and win a limited edition badge! It was only $5 and she loved it (see below).
Themed areas included:
LEGO Play Stations such as their Creative Workshop
The LEGO Movie Theater in 2D and 4D
Pirate Adventure Island
Merlin's Apprentice ride
Sofia really enjoyed all of the themed locations but her top 3 were: MINILAND, Pirate Adventure Island and DUPLO Village, which I feel are great for her age since she is 3. Here is a quick recap of the Little Playtimes offering for children 5 and under, which we highly recommend trying!
- Discounted entry for both parents and children; tickets are $14.95 per person – a
savings of $10 off regular admission!
- FREE regular tall Starbucks coffee for parents with admission ticket
- Little Playtimes is on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 11 a.m./2 p.m. at DUPLO
