Staying Connected During the Quarantine

Updated: May 19

This year has definitely gotten pretty interesting, to say the least, so after almost two months of being home, I figured that I had to start getting creative on ways to stay connected with my loved ones. Since I can only imagine many of you are feeling the same way, we decided to share a few fun ways you can stay connected without compromising yourself.

Virtual Happy Hour

Whether you're doing this via zoom, Google Duo, Facetime, or Whatsapp, consider inviting 1 or 10 of your closest friends to join you for some face to facetime over wine or your favorite snack. My mom and I have decided to make this a weekly tradition and this week we incorporated our favorite sweet treat from our friends at Voortman Bakery.

I haven't laughed this hard in a while and it was nice to reconnect with my mom, especially since I was supposed to visit her for Mother's Day and the quarantine derailed our plans.

Virtual Cook-Off

At our house, we love to cook, well correction...I love to cook. It's always a lot of fun to share recipes with friends and family, so why not make it a live event. Consider reaching out to a close friend or family member, inviting them to a video call, and selecting a dish you can both make together. Call them via Zoom, Facetime, GoogleDuo, or WhatsApp and prepare your meal together. It's a great way to share a new recipe and a unique way to keep in touch Bon Appetit!

Let's be Pen Pals

Yes, you read that right! Let's go back in time and remember what it was like to have a pen pal. Grab a piece of paper and jot down your thoughts. You may be surprised at how much fun this can be. I am actually thinking of starting this with my God Daughter who I don't get to see enough and would totally get a kick out of this. FUN TIP: if you have postcards lying around the house try those, or create your very own at home.

Record a Video Message

Although we are all socially distancing ourselves, the days can go by pretty fast and many of us are chasing after our kids most of the time. So, try and record a special video for a loved one every so often and send it to them so that they know you are thinking of them. It will be a nice gesture, especially if you haven't been able to grab the phone lately or talk for a while. TIP: Try including the kids in the video as well!

For the video like the one I shared above, consider using the app InShot!

Another great option is Vidhug where you can send the link to all your family and friends and have them upload a picture or video. The program then puts them all together in a video for the special person who is celebrating something to view!
